Instructions for sending plain text mail and/or turning off HTML in Netscape
Version 7.01 :
- Go to Edit
Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
- Uncheck box Compose messages in HTML format.
Version 6.0 and Higher:
- Go to Edit
Preferences
Mail & Newsgroups.
- Click on Message Composition
Forwarding and Replying to Messages
Change the Forward messages to Inline.
- Go to Composing Messages
Uncheck for messages that contain eight-bit characters
- Go to Send Formatting
When sending message in HTML format
Click on Ask me what to do
OK
- In a new message window click on Options
Format
Plain text only
Send the message.
Versions 4.5, 4.6, 4.7
- Go to Edit
Preferences
Mail & Newsgroups.
- Go to Messages
Forward and
Replying to Messages
Change By default, forward messages to Inline.
- Go to Send messages that use eight-bit characters
Click on As is.
- Go to Formatting
Message formatting
Choose Use the plain text editor to compose messages.
- Go to When sending HTML mail messages
Click on Ask me what to do
OK.

If you want to turn off Address Book Cards (VCards):
Go to Edit
Preferences
Mail & Newsgroups
Identity
Uncheck Attach my personal card
OK.
Versions 4.0x - 4.4x
- Go to Edit
Preferences
Mail and Groups & Messages.
- Go to Messages
Uncheck By default, send HTML messages.
- Go to More Options
When sending HTML messages to recipients who are not listed as being able to receive HTML
Click Always convert the message into plain text
OK

- If you want to turn off Address Book Cards (VCards):
Go to Edit
Preferences
Mail & Newsgroups
Identity
Uncheck Always send Address Book Cards
OK.
- To turn off Address Book Cards in Version 3.xx

Go to Tools
Mail Options
Send tab.
- Go to Mail Sending Format
Check box next to Plain Text
- Go to Settings
Message Format
Click MIME.
Check box next to Encode text using
None Uncheck Allow eight-bit characters in headers
OK.
